This Blog Has Moved

September 16, 2011

The new and improved website has been working very well this fall!  I’ll be shutting down this blog soon.  Please transfer your subscription to the new site, and while you’re at it, check out several new blog entries posted recently.  I’ve added videos of some favorite Spring Into Spanish songs.  The new website is still found at www.SpringIntoSpanish.com and the new blog can be found at www.SpringIntoSpanish.com/sisblog

Almost Ready to Launch

July 30, 2011

The new website is going to be worth the wait!  In the meantime, here’s a very cute video that MisCositas.com featured today:

Information about Fall Classes

July 13, 2011

Registration for fall classes will begin in late July.  I hope to be launching a new website at that time, making online registration possible.  I am out of town a lot this summer (including a trip to Honduras!) and am not able to return inquiries in a timely manner.   If you would like to receive an update, letting you know when registration begins, be sure to get on my mailing list by giving me an email address.  You can write SraBaskett@SpringIntoSpanish.com or call Miche Baskett at (404) 312 – 7075.  For more general information, see the website (soon to be updated!):  www.SpringIntoSpanish.com

For your planning, here is the basic information for this fall:

Fall Session 2011:  La casa
September 6 – November 17 (ten classes);  No class the week of October 10
Classes meet for forty-five minutes, once a week, for ten weeks, having one week off in the middle.  The session costs $160, with a $10 registration fee for new families; second sibling only $120.

This fall, we will learn words encountered in everyday life at home, such as the rooms of the house and names for furniture.  We will love getting to know each other, while talking about our families, pets, clothes, meals, and houses.  At the heart of every lesson is a wonderful story.  As always, we will sing songs in every class.  Students have access to a small library of Spanish-language books and receive take-home activities to support the lessons.

Classes for two to five-year-olds with an accompanying adult:
This is a fun opportunity to learn together with your child!  I recommend these classes to all students under four years old.  Four and five-year-olds are also welcome in these classes.  Optimum class size is from five to eight students.  Choose from these class times offered for Fall Session:
Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m., or 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m., or 3:00 p.m.
Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Drop-off class for students ages four to seven with an adult on-campus:
This class is for older students who are ready to be in class without an adult.  You may wish to choose this class if you think it would benefit your very independent learner, or if it works better for your family schedule.
Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m.

Classes are located in downtown Decatur, GA,
at The First Christian Church of Decatur, 601 West Ponce de Leon

Article about Raising Bilingual Kids

April 20, 2011

Click here to read a good article that quotes Ana Lomba, encouraging parents to raise bilingual children, even if the parents are monolingual.  It outlines some specific strategies, including singing, playing, reading, and speaking (all of which we do in Spring Into Spanish classes!).
